During a heatwave in Warsaw, water mysteriously disappears. Working to solve this riddle is Professor Milczarek (Wiesław Michnikowski), who calls upon the unaffiliated superhero—Ace, also known as Nowak—for help. Ace is a parody of American heroes: by day, he is a quiet engineer, but when duty calls, he transforms into a guardian of the law, delivering speeches about occupational health and safety or alcohol being "the ultimate poison." He must foil the plans of the villainous Doctor Stain (Zdzisław Maklakiewicz), who, in collusion with the Maharajah of the desert kingdom of Kabur (Roman Kłosowski), wants to drain Poland dry.

Hydrozagadka is a cult crime comedy and Poland's very first "camp" film. Director Andrzej Kondratiuk grotesquely mocks both American comic books and the reality of 1970s Communist Poland. Absurd humor, brilliant dialogue, and unforgettable acting performances have earned the film a permanent place in the canon of Polish comedy.
